This is our attempt as a small independent music label to contribute toward making a better world, to assuming that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities for change.

Outlands - Love Is As Cold As Death [Reissue]

Wow, the last time we worked with Outlands was just over four years ago. Of course we’ve stayed close with the band since then and are now beyond excited to be bringing their underrated debut LP Love Is As Cold As Death to cassette for the first time (with its original artwork!). And though Melissa and Mark no longer record together as Outlands, there’s no reason you can’t dip back in and remind yourself why we all fell in love with them in the first place!

Tapes are in and look gorgeous and will be shipping starting this Friday. So grab a copy while we have them.

GABI - Sea Glass

You may not have heard of Gabi Manning AKA GABI yet, but you’ll want to familiarize yourself with her honest and catchy music as soon as possible. Based out of Provo, Utah, this gal has a knack for writing songs with simple instrumentation and gorgeous melodies. She has released a string of lo-fi releases on her Bandcamp, but with Sea Glass she is stepping out and delivering her proper debut full-length. And just in time for summer’s end.

Sea Glass is out on 9/9. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you.

Beach Gossip – Mirrors EP

Nick Coffey grew up in LA, he grew up skating, and has a thing for Kurt Cobain. It’s no wonder his project, Beach Gossip, encompasses all the vibes you would hope for in an angsty yet sun-kissed surf-punk sound. His debut release, Mirrors EP, lends itself perfectly to cassette listening with solid lo-fi production. It’s the EP you want to pop in and cruise up the PCH listening to – that is, if you’re lucky enough to still have a cassette deck in your car.

Happy Friday! Friday’s are always great, especially when we get to announce awesome new releases. Today we’re super happy to announce a new release coming up with brand new LA-based surf-punk project Beach Gossip. We’ll be putting his 5-song Mirrors EP out next month on limited edition cassette tape, and couldn’t be more excited. The EP is a collection of perfectly balanced grunge sounds and reckless summer punk anthems – all impeccably timed with the impending sunny months ahead of us.

This project has been very near and dear to us here at Chill Mega Chill. We have such a privilege to work with bands like Brett that truly just want to make something awesome, and make the relationship between music and listener as special as possible. And that’s exactly how this project came together, though not without adversity.

The Vinyl Issue

We really wanted to make this release special so we decided to venture into territory we hadn’t explored much and put it on vinyl. But it just so happens that the vinyl industry is doing really well right now. So much so that every major vinyl plant has been extremely backed up this last half of the year. We wanted to release this a bit earlier this year, but because of the state of manufacturing the EP is taking about twice as long as it should. On one hand it’s a great thing because that means vinyl is doing better than ever, so much so that plants can hardly keep up with the demand. On the other hand it’s a bummer because it means what we wanted to release in late summer/early fall, is being pushed back to January. A big win for the industry at large, but a bit of a waiting game for us until then.

The IOU Solution

Due to all this madness all pre-orders will be sent a super special IOU package from us and the band to show our appreciation, and thank you for the support. We’ll have the vinyl in hand early January, but still wanted to get this project out. We figured a special little care package would be a good way to tide over the devoted supporters who ordered early.

“Street Cleaning” is an exploration of new love, how it consumes us and makes us feel invincible. We couldn’t be more excited to announce that we’ll be releasing LA-by-way-of-DC band Brett’s upcoming EP, On Account of Your Love. What’s even more exciting is that it will be our second vinyl release!

In their words, “the EP explores how people come together, then drift apart. The happy recklessness of infatuation lets us bloom. But, silent changes make beautiful things fade away right in front of our eyes.” They expertly balance a heartfelt sincerity with an infections summer sound who’s appeal is undeniable.

TAPE DECK THE HALLS

It’s that time of year, when you “woof” at Buzz’s girlfriend, pour eggnog all over your body, and decorate a dead plant in the middle of your living room. But, most importantly, you listen to music that you only listen to at this time of year. Christmas music carries with it so many memories and nostalgic feelings that continue to compound inside you with each passing year. The beauty of it all is that it never gets old, and there is no limit to the amount of holiday music that can and should exist in the world.

That’s why we’ve commissioned some more of these totally righteous Christmas tunes from some of our favorite artists, both CMC and otherwise. Tape Deck The Halls is our first ever ode to the more merry of holidays (a departure from our more ghoulish tendencies), and it’s filled with 10 great Christmas songs, some originals, and some new renditions of old classics.

The compilation is being released along side a very special holiday sweater, and made with the chillest love there is. The sweater comes with an automatic download of the compilation, or you can download it for whatever you feel like paying.
